Spent some time on UTUBE this week looking at various MMA workouts. There are tons of them from Bas Rutten to Ken Shamrock all with some good and not so good training ideas. The one that has caught my eye this week is a punching bag routine. All you need is a 5 or 6 foot punching bag and a partner (although half of it doesn’t require one. You start with your partner holding onto the bag and you work your way around the bag hitting it with everything you have. After about a minute your partner drops the bag and you jump straight onto mount and start going hell for leather. Start with punches from mount before switching to knees and elbows from knee ride, before moving to side control with knees and elbows. By this time two or three minutes have passed and your partner joins back in by pushing you or pulling you off the bag to simulate the defender moving and pushing from underneath you. Use the same timed rounds as the competition you are involved in.
This routine is a hard cardio workout, strength endurance and all round body killer.
