SENJO 2008

dscf2308Last weekend Queensland Bob Jones Martial Arts students undertook their final Zen Do Kai and BJC Muay Thai gradings for 2008. Over 150 people witnessed 70 students ranging in age from 7 years to well over 40 years compete against each other for the prestige of being awarded a new rank in Bob Jones Martial Arts.

Local martial arts instructor Kyoshi Brad Ross 6th degree along with Renshi Bruce Maile 4th degree and Renshi Kyl Reber 4th degree presided over the day’s event. Kyoshi Brad said “It was truly a martial arts spectacular; we had juniors attempting everything up to 1st degree in Zen Do Kai not to mention the senior Muay Thai 2nd degree martial arts marathon which was only preceded by eight outstanding black belts attempting their 1st degree and 3rd degree gradings respectively.” Kyoshi said “The black belts demonstrated their state of the art effective street style self defence applications against single and multiple attackers showing the highest level of concentration as they dispensed with their attackers effortlessly utilizing techniques aimed at manipulating inferior body structures.”

Local Maryborough Zen Do Kai instructors Matt Avery, Nicholas Knauseder, Katherine Knauseder and Warrick Gage achieved their first degrees and were awarded their black gi’s. Katherine and Warrick were also awarded their Sempai (Instructor) titles. This was followed by Sensei Chris Putney achieving his 3rd degree before being awarded his Sensei title and gold Bushido cross. Other cross recipients included Matt Avery – Silver Bushido, Katherine Knauseder, Nicholas Knauseder, Maddison Maile, Wade and Kylie Husmann.

Hervey Bay BJC Muay Thai Instructor Barry achieved his 2nd degree after completing over an hour of drills and skill work where he brutalized his pad holder with devastatingly powerful techniques followed by 5 hard rounds including knees and elbows against other Muay Thai Instructors.

Adding to the excitement of the day spectators were fortunate to witness a Senjo bow in with over 60 people decked out in traditional samurai attire complete with samurai swords standing in a square, circle and triangle formation. Rounding the grading out were over 50 students attempting coloured belt and singlet’s in both Zen Do Kai and BJC Muay Thai. The weekend included over 80 people attending the 2008 presentation dinner.

Looking forward to next year
