Blitz Magazine

I have just read the latest Blitz and what caught my eye was John Will’s “Last Word” article at the back of the magazine. He cited 5 ways to improve yourself financially and I reckon he’s right so here they are:-

  1. Get rid of credit card debt
  2. Have a savings plan of 10% of your income
  3. Buy a house
  4. Buy another property once yu have paid your first down significantly.
  5. Self investment budget.

The article said the same stuff as most of the financial ones do except for the last one. I have been saying for years that the best money you will spend is on yourself.

One of my closest mates has always said you spend too much time training but when I left my trade to go to university I lived off my income as a bouncer and with the help of my dear wife’s nurses wage. What my mate didn’t realise was that all those training sessions were an investment in myself.

By being involved in the martial arts I have learnt how to run a business, advertise, sell products, stay fit and healthy, respect others, identify positive and negative people, teamwork and much more. These skills are essential in most occupations and we are giving them to students for the smallest of costs.

How many times do we here people say how did they get that job, how can they afford that car and so on. Well unless it came through a family inheritance I’d say they worked for it and usually spent many thousands of dollards to contiinually upskill themselves. As the saying goes if your not going forward then your going backwards.

The bottom line is the body, mind and spirit you have now is the only one you get so take care of it. I like the idea of when my race is done and I end up in heaven I will come skidding in tires bald, motor stuffed, panels dented yelling WOOHOO what a ride. Can’t do that sitting in an arm chair. So get off your backsides and spend some time on improving yourself.
