My weekend

The last few days have been truly humbling, it started on Friday with a call from Soke Bob Jones (Chief) promoting me through to full seventh degree. I am honoured to be promoted and relish this opportunity to live up to the rank.

I had already booked in to train in Toowoomba on Saturday for Kyoshi Steve Dickens memorial and after an interesting trip (that’s another story) we finally arrived. Four of my Toowoomba Zen Do Kai family were also promoted which led to an excellent day of training and celebrating.

My next engagement was two seminars on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday with the first being training with my BJJ instructor and friend Darren McKean. After a great session where more holes in my training were shown Daz promoted Brian, Eddie and I through to purple belt. Totally blown away and once again I relish the chance to live up to this rank.

Finally the last seminar came around and I spent three hours working with a handful of brown and black belts on some of my kata flow drills. Thanks, to the browns and blacks who appreciated my thoughts and concepts surrounding kata and their applications. We just scratched the surface there is much more to learn and I am looking forward to the next seminar.

Thanks to everyone for their congratulations I am truly humbled by these promotions and thankful for the wonderful friends and family I have. I look to the people who have been honoured with these ranks before me and promise to fulfil and develop myself further.

Lastly thanks to my wife and children for their support, without it these achievements would not feel so sweet.
